Industrial Surge & Transient Protection
Protecting PLCs, VSDs, control systems and critical electrical equipment from damaging power disturbances.
South African supply and support for manufacturing, mining, industrial automation, production facilities, data centres and other critical installations.
The Sinetamer® solution encompasses the deployment of a 4th Generation Technology of surge and transient protection system. We are more than just a typical lightning arrestor which can be found on electrical panels around the world. Sinetamer® is an engineered solution designed for the ultrasensitive nature of all variations of microprocessor based devices. Our 36+ years of experience and an existing range of over 125 000 different devices and a customer centric engineering team virtually assure a solution for your organization.
Surprising to many, it is not the catastrophic surge events from lightning or utility companies that create software confusion and downtime. Therefore up to 99% of all other surge protection devices are ineffective in addressing such events. Only the Frequency Attenuation Network found in the Sinetamer® products can effectively reduce or eliminate often up to 80% of the causes of all electrical/electronic equipment failures experienced by entities around the world.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes SineTamer® different from a standard surge protective device or lightning arrestor?
Most surge protective devices are voltage-actuated — they only start working once a voltage spike crosses a set threshold, and they typically only clamp the extreme peaks of the sine wave. SineTamer® uses frequency attenuation circuitry instead, actively tracking and filtering the full 360° of the sine wave rather than just its extremes, which lets it respond to a much wider range of disturbances than a conventional arrestor can.
My facility already has surge arrestors installed — why do we still get PLC lockups, resets or VSD failures?
Most equipment failures on a site aren't caused by the big, obvious events like lightning strikes or utility surges — they're caused by smaller transients generated internally, for example by motors, VSDs and other switching loads. Conventional surge protection is built to catch the large external events and typically does very little for this internally generated disturbance, which is why sensitive microprocessor-based equipment can keep failing even with standard protection already in place.
Does installing SineTamer® mean removing our existing lightning arrestors?
No — SineTamer® units are designed to work as part of a layered Cascade Protection Network, with different unit types positioned at different points in the electrical system, from the main incomer down to individual sensitive circuits. It adds a level of protection standard arrestors don't provide, rather than replacing the large-event protection you already have at the service entrance.
How long does it typically take to see a return on investment?
Based on SineTamer's own experience, the investment in surge and transient protection typically pays for itself within 3 to 18 months, largely through the reduction in downtime, equipment damage and maintenance costs that follow.
Where has SineTamer® been used, and for how long?
SineTamer® was first introduced in 2004 and has since been installed in 43 countries, across industries including manufacturing, mining, industrial automation, data centres and other facilities running sensitive or critical equipment.
What kind of equipment does SineTamer® protect?
SineTamer® is designed for the wide range of microprocessor-based devices used in industrial and commercial environments — including PLCs, variable speed/frequency drives (VSDs/VFDs), control systems, and other sensitive electronic equipment that's vulnerable to power quality issues beyond what a standard surge arrestor addresses.
How do I know which SineTamer® units my site needs?
SineTamer offers a full range of protection levels, from LA & RM units and the SineTamer Advantage range through to medium voltage and individual circuit units, matched to where they sit in your electrical system. Get in touch and a SineTamer expert can help match the right units to your specific site.
Is SineTamer® available through an authorized distributor in South Africa?
Yes. SineTamer® has been distributed in South Africa since October 2010 through Upward Spiral 1007cc, officially appointed by Energy Control Systems (ECS International) — the exclusive manufacturer and supplier of SineTamer® TVSS products — as the authorized distributor for South Africa, providing sales, technical support and service across the country.
